Windows blocks reactivating my license following the BIOS update.
I bought my Windows 11 Pro product key through the Microsoft Store in April 2023. Recently, I updated my BIOS since it was over two years since my last update. After the update, I couldn’t access Windows with my PIN and had to log in using my Microsoft Account. After a short period of use, a watermark appeared on my screen. I attempted to click the “I changed hardware recently” option, but it didn’t help. I contacted Microsoft Support and explained the situation, but the representative insisted I repeat all steps. They also emailed me with commands for the command prompt that removed any history related to the product key. Eventually, they informed me I would be transferred to tier 2. When the new representative joined, I described the issue, apologized, and ended the call.
It's often smoother to handle these tasks via phone with Microsoft—though it does feel slower than expected. Previously, they’d just provide a fresh key, which now clears the original one from your system. If it’s linked to your Microsoft account, activation should prompt you about the desired license for that device.
