This weekend I assisted my friend in assembling a new or used PC. On Sunday night, his machine would freeze and the sound would distort, though Windows didn’t fully fail because I could still hear him on Discord. Last night we suspected the issue stemmed from using the daisy-chained 8-pin power cable for the GPU. He switched to a separate cable for each component, and it functioned temporarily, but now only the audio is affected. Windows has been reinstalled twice via the cloud download reset option if that helps, since he doesn’t have a USB drive.

Specs: Ryzen 7 2700 ROG Strix B450-F Gaming II, 32GB RAM, Patriot Viper Elite II 3600MHz, Gigabyte RTX 3070 Gaming, Samsung 860 QVO 1TB cooler, Cooler Master MWE 850W Gold V2.

These visual and sound problems might point to a problem with the GPU or its drivers. Are you sure your friend uses GeForce Experience for keeping the drivers current?

Once we powered on the computer, we executed DDU and performed a complete system update. Each time after reinstalling Windows, he added the newest graphics drivers.

Operate the RAM kit on DOCP (XMP) at 3600mhz? Unless you adjust the voltages manually, stability is unlikely. With a 2700X, even 3200mhz proved challenging for the CPU. My advice is to start with auto mode (2133mhz, 2666mhz) and auto voltage/timings, then fine-tune later.

It's an older CPU, and since I maxed out at around 3000MHz, I kept it in auto mode. He might have thought about changing it. I'll suggest resetting the BIOS and check if it helps.
