Hello, I’m facing an unusual problem with my laptop. It seems that when I hover over the taskbar with my mouse—whether it’s apps or Chrome—I only gets a response from one at a time. Even pressing Windows key and trying to shut it down doesn’t work. I had to physically turn it off just to stop it.

Possible reasons: I recently installed an 8GB DDR4 RAM, which should have improved performance. However, when I first set it up, the system ran smoothly with no issues. I haven’t downloaded any suspicious software lately, so that might not be the cause. Currently, everything works fine without anything connected, except my external keyboard, mouse via USB hub, external monitor through HDMI, and a speaker setup.

I tried connecting everything to a USB 2.0 port on the hub, but the problem persists even when I switch to a USB 3.0 port. This suggests something might be wrong with the USB connections or drivers. It’s possible a driver issue is involved. I’ve uninstalled previous versions of Gefore to free space, but that didn’t resolve the problem either.

Could someone help explain what might be causing this? Maybe it’s related to the USB setup or drivers. Before this happened, my laptop handled multiple USB devices without issues, so it’s worth checking if there’s a driver conflict or hardware issue.

I recommend running memtest on the laptop in question. I'm not entirely clear on what you're referring to, but it seems like you're experiencing issues when shutting down normally after pressing the Windows key. It might be related to memory problems. You could also try using ctrl+alt+delete and see if that helps, but make sure to run memtest to check your memory performance.

I discovered MemTest exists and plan to use it with my new RAM. It only responds one at a time—like I can be chatting on Chrome while sketching, then switch to Photoshop, but the mouse just hovers without clicking. After removing the RAM, the problem persisted, so maybe it’s not the memory issue in my SSD or HDD. The Ctrl+Alt+Delete shortcut works sometimes, but even Task Manager doesn’t respond.

I acquired a new RAM that matches my current setup closely. My usual RAM is CL16 and the one I recently bought is CL16 too. This shouldn't cause any problems since CL16 should easily adapt to CL16. Both have 2400MHz speeds—one is SKHINX, the other is G.Skill.

It seems the issue is similar to what I faced before. Running CL 17 might cause instability when using CL16.

Even without the cl16, the problem might still lie with your USB 2.0 port.

Your memory might need some updating. Does your laptop allow you to access BIOS? Try entering it and check if you can restore it to its original settings. If the port isn’t used, does the system run smoothly? It’s possible a USB issue could affect Explorer in Windows, but connecting a basic device like a keyboard (without any storage) might still cause problems.

I can enter the bios but I’m not sure it will let me reset it since it’s a laptop. I think resetting is possible, but I’ll check. It works fine without any USB connections, which is good because I don’t use any USB storage. Connecting my microphone or mouse might cause issues, and the same goes for the keyboard. Maybe I’ll need a different USB hub next time.
