Hi there, I’m new to this topic and haven’t seen anything similar on the forum. I’m looking into backup solutions that people rely on for their boot drives. I’m using a Samsung 840 SSD as my boot drive and a WD Green HDD for storage. I want to copy the entire SSD to the HDD, but the Windows backup feature isn’t working. It keeps showing this error: http://imgur.com/FDY2SV7 (code 0x80780040). My disk management view looks like this: http://imgur.com/FDY2SV7. As a German speaker, feel free to ask for translations if needed. Thanks ahead!

Yes, I can help with that. I understand some German, though not very well.

In the first pic it says something like this: 'Backup storage location is invalid. A volume within the backup can not be used as a storage location.' It looks like something that is necessary for the backup is on my HDD? But I don't know how that is possible. I didn't plug my HDD in until after I finished installing everything on the SSD. 'Fehlercode' means 'error code'. If you need anything else translated, please point out what it is, because if I just translate everything it gets even more confusing.

I rely on AOMEI Backupper. It offers options for full backups, differential backups, and interval-based backups. It’s quite impressive overall. You can select which drives to back up and specify their location conveniently, along with a schedule ranging from a month to an hour. You can also access and examine individual files within the backups. Definitely worth trying.

I regularly rely on Acronis to capture a snapshot of my storage, and I haven’t found any issues so far.

The error suggests the source and destination are on the same disk, possibly due to a file or folder being mistakenly added to the backup process. I located this detail here: https://social.technet.microsoft.com/For...w7itproper. To resolve, execute the command he recommends: "wbadmin start backup -backuptarget:<your_backup_drive> -allcritical". For example, use "wbadmin start backup -backuptarget:G: -allcritical" instead of a letter you don’t have. Another option is Acronis True Image, which offers strong backup capabilities but requires payment.
