Windows altered my scroll lock to Copilot and I dislike that change.
I discovered unexpected changes from Microsoft affecting my workflow. Copilot is now linked to my scroll lock and can interrupt me whenever it's activated. If there were an option to disable this, I wouldn't mind it much. But I'm unable to do so. The frustration stems from the fact that removing the distraction requires using a third-party tool. I searched the registry but didn't find a direct key to stop this behavior. While they might need to create a new button, perhaps using an existing key like right or left CTRL/ALT could work better.
Only Windows 7 could operate smoothly without problems; otherwise, this situation wouldn't exist. Microsoft keeps showing they aren't reliable.
MS Manager in a room: "What should we choose for CoPilot?"
Team: "Is there a key hardly anyone uses? The scroll lock?"
Manager: "That works, no one relies on that."
So naturally someone will emerge who actually employs the scroll lock and faces an issue.
I haven’t seen it used in any keyboard I own, not once.
You mentioned your concerns before, and I understand why you feel that way. It’s clear you’re part of a smaller audience, but why should you be limited by design choices? A good system should offer options like customizable controls or fully disable shortcuts. You shouldn’t have to compromise just because it doesn’t fit your workflow. I personally can’t rely on certain keys in productivity tools, and that’s not something I want imposed on others.
Because it doesn’t serve any usual purpose, I rely on it as a special shortcut in different applications—like pausing or starting recordings in OBS. The keyboard light also helps me know if recording is on or off.
the most used keys in history are redundant?? oh. that's clever. i use delete. >.< no you're right... that's the issue, i don't understand why they wouldn't let you choose another hotkey, neither why there is no option to turn off hijacker copilot ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ So your only option(s) are turn it off via 3rd party, use another key, install an os that doesn't have this (personally i use win 10 22H2 and don't have this... )
Funny I bound scroll lock as my screen lock, lol Power toys is a great must-have, features things you will find in windows but they are the better (premium version) found in windows. If only Microsoft would utilize power toys as the features included in windows, window would be better for it. Technically not really a 3rd party since Power Toys is a Microsoft garage application. But yeah, your point is valid.
