I'm working on upgrading your old laptop from Windows 8 to Windows 10. The reset didn’t fix the problems, so you're considering a clean install of Windows 10 and formatting the drive. You're worried about activation since the system switched back to Windows 8 after the reset. You want to know if you can safely do a clean install and let Windows 10 activate itself, or if the activation key is tied to Windows 8.

I’m certain that logging in to an MS account on that device saves your Windows 10 key and activation details to the Microsoft account. This means you don’t require any product keys or additional software.
