Windows 8.1 offers a solid base yet comes with both bothersome issues!
Hello, I recently switched to Windows 8.1 Pro for testing (64-bit) and everything seemed fine until I encountered some everyday issues that are really annoying. For example, yesterday I couldn't use alt+tab to switch between games and had to rely on flag+tab instead. Then it stopped working completely, forcing me to use flag+d to reach my desktop while playing. Today in Chrome, the scroll wheel isn’t responding, but it functions in Skype and my left mouse clicks are messing everything up. When I try to open a bookmark, it launches a new window or tab instead of the one I’m on. Additionally, Skype keeps crashing, so I have to switch to alt+tab to access it in the taskbar. These problems keep happening during regular use, and it’s frustrating. I haven’t updated my Windows yet, don’t use custom keyboard/mouse drivers, but Chrome and other drivers are up to date. This version is really not working for me. I hope someone can help with a solution. Thank you, Henrik – your support means a lot!
The issue with using alt+tab in a game could be that it doesn’t function properly within that specific game. Each game behaves differently—some freeze the screen, others hide to the taskbar, and some just move behind other windows. For scrolling, try updating your mouse driver (if applicable) and restarting; some high-end mice have occasional problems with basic controls if the right driver isn’t installed. Updating the operating system might also resolve the problem. I’ve been using Windows 8.1Pro without any of these complications, so it’s not the OS that’s the cause.
I've never had these problems with 8.1 and have been using it since 8 launched on this laptop. I recently upgraded all my other PCs—including my wife's—to 8.1 after being happy with it at work for six months. Please let me know if you can resolve the issue, as I'm unsure how to advise given your report of problems. My scroll wheel stopped working on my work PC; the software that came with it during a Windows update had the default middle button set for magnifying text, which was unusual.
Yeah I know, the OS is probably fine its just quite sad that such problems occur since it's so ragebrewing when the computer doesn't act like you want it to and you did it like five minutes ago. But thanks for the tips, installed the mouse driver and started the windows update when I posted this. Hopefully this solves everything. Never experienced anything like this in my life And my mate is using exactly the same copy so he's honestly shocked But idk it's not that important because it's ways around the problems but it's well yeah irritating.
It's really frustrating when things don't go as planned. I experienced this recently with installations that required reformatting the hard drive, often due to random chance.
