I put Windows on SSD 2 and Ubuntu on SSD 1, but no matter which SSD I choose, only Ubuntu appears. The MSI A78M-E45 V2—could it be because the Windows installation disc didn’t boot in UEFI? I planned to use UEFI, but it crashed a lot during the install.

Access advanced boot options in Ubuntu. The Windows 8.1 bootloader might be swapped with an Ubuntu version.

I’ll share a workaround that helped me on Kali Linux before.
1. Disconnect the drive with Ubuntu installed.
2. Insert the Windows DVD or a bootable USB.
3. Start the installation and choose “Repair Windows.”
4. Follow the on-screen instructions afterward.

Your PC requires repair. The operating system failed to load due to a missing or corrupted kernel. Check the file at \windows\system32 and run the recovery tools on your installation media. If you lack any media (such as a disc or USB), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer for assistance.

Did you start up via a CD or directly from the Windows installation media?

Download the Windows 8.1 ISO you already have. Install Rufus, a free tool, and format a USB stick that is at least 4GB. In the process, create a bootable image by selecting the DD image, choosing the ISO, and pressing start. Once complete, use the USB to boot into the Windows 8.1 installation.
