You should be able to install Windows 8.1 Student without needing Windows 7. Your friend likely installed it on your PC, so you can proceed confidently. Just make sure the installation is complete and you have the product key if required. Let me know if you need help with the setup!

Absolutely, everything will work. I don't understand the need for Windows 7 at the moment.

Windows 8.1 Pro Student: £50 available at the link provided. I set it up on my new computer without any existing operating system. It came with a USB drive. After buying the OS, you receive an email with a link to your account page. From there, you can download the executable file. This file lets you create a bootable USB using the OS. It doesn’t install the OS directly onto your current machine. You’ll need to insert the USB into an empty or blank system or boot from it. I tried this method and it functioned correctly. If you have questions, just let me know! Also, if you prefer not to use a USB, you can buy a Windows 8.1 Pro disc for under £10. Booting from a USB will erase all data on the drive, but once you make it bootable, you can add new files to utilize any extra space—other files won’t affect the setup. Just ensure the drive is free of viruses or malware.
