Windows 8.1 experiencing issues with sleep functionality.
Occasionally, my computer fails to shut down properly. When I attempt to put it to sleep, the screen appears blank as expected, but the system remains active for about four minutes before I give up. It seems the issue arises when too many background programs are running. Closing Steam, Skype, and Chrome helps resolve the problem.
You may require PC melatonin tablets. They can disable everything.
I believe this feature handles cases where leaving your computer idle for a short time—especially with sleep enabled after a certain period—prevents it from entering sleep mode. For instance, if you're running an active download, putting the PC to sleep would stop the download abruptly, which is likely undesirable. I’m not entirely confident about its accuracy but wonder how it identifies such scenarios, possibly by monitoring CPU or network activity levels. For example, a 40% CPU usage would suggest the system is busy. I’ve noticed that sleep initiation can sometimes take up to a minute, though it usually completes in just a few seconds.
