Ensure all personal data is saved to a USB stick or external HDD during Windows Safe mode. Once completed, you can reinstall or update your computer. Keep your Windows 8/8.1 product key handy for creating a bootable USB. Access the official download at http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windo...t-key-only. Install the file, enter your key, and follow steps to generate a bootable drive. This allows fresh installation or a system refresh when it restarts. REMEMBER: the USB must contain only these files; anything else will be erased.
I don’t possess the key, but I removed a stick of RAM and now it’s indicating Scanning and Repairing Drive C. I’ll edit that.
I reinstalled Windows 8.1 Pro and used MemTest86 5.01 to check the RAM. It showed poor performance. I'm currently working on fixing it.
