Hello! You're on Windows 7 and want to try Windows 8.1 on a different drive. Since you only have one HDD, you can use a partitioning tool to move the OS to another drive. Looking at your setup there wont be any driver problems, just wait for windows 10 instead of buying windows 8.1 now

I already possess an 8.1 Key recently, and I’m just aiming to upgrade it temporarily. The need for a separate storage drive comes from the fact that my current external drive isn’t large enough to accommodate all my Steam games and Adobe applications.

Consider running Windows 7 on a separate drive without activation, then use that installation to download Windows 8.
