I'm working on your wife's Ultrabook and changed the drive five times today. Each time I get the error about Windows updates not saving changes, I try KB 2871389 which is one of the two needed updates for version 8.1, but it keeps failing. The process takes too long to complete. I also have an OEM Windows 8.1 disk from when she bought it, but my Ultrabook doesn't have a drive attached. So far, nothing has caused issues with Windows updates on this device.
