You own Windows 8 Pro by default since the Dell t1700 comes with it. The sticker and website details just indicate licensing for purchase. To get a license key, you’ll need to buy Windows 8 Pro directly from Microsoft or through a retailer.

The key is saved in the EUFI and will be automatically utilized after installing Windows 8.

You own a PC that was reduced by Dell from Windows 8 to 7. They typically provide a Windows 8 disc, which should work without issues. The key is saved in the UEFI and will insert itself automatically.

I managed it! I installed Windows 8 last night. The interface isn’t exactly my style, but is there a way to downgrade? Can I still use the Windows 7 key now that I upgraded? Would I need it to revert back? I’m not sure yet, but I’ll give it a shot with Windows 8.1—it’s just not smooth enough. Thanks everyone, and good luck!
