Windows 8 may not be ideal for gaming, especially if you're using Windows 7. It offers a different interface and performance differences that can affect gaming experience.

It's often said that Windows 8.1 offers better efficiency and performance compared to older versions of Windows.

Windows 8 consumes fewer resources, making it more efficient. It will also receive support for a longer period.

There is a slight performance boost from upgrading to Windows 8, but nothing to get excited about. I wouldn't upgrade unless if its free or unless if you absolutely need to. Windows 10 would probably be the best option, in terms of performance, usability, and cost.

Windows 8 works better, but don't upgrade. Windows 10, offering even greater speed, is available for all Windows 8.1 and 7 users at no cost.

Alternatively, either option should work without issues. If you intend to purchase a copy immediately, Windows 8 appears to be the better option since it includes a free upgrade to Windows 10 when DirectX 12 becomes unavailable. Additionally, mainstream support for Windows 7 ceased on January 13, 2015, while Windows 8's support ends on January 9, 2018.

Yes. Windows 8/8.1 offers improved multi-core scheduling and a smaller system footprint compared to earlier versions. (Curse you Vista!)
