I purchased a new SSD and initially intended to run Windows 8, then upgrade to Windows 8.1 and finally Windows 10. This setup allowed me to retain my Windows 8 installation on the current drive. Following the fresh installation, I needed to add a LAN driver for internet access, followed by running Windows Update. I also attempted to install all drives, but the same issue persisted. After downloading and installing the 140+ updates, the system asked to restart, which triggered a configuration process stopping at 12%. It would then restart again, but the computer would crash after the Windows logo appeared, displaying a black screen and failing to respond. I couldn’t even access Safe Mode or Windows Repair. To get it working, I had to boot from the Windows 8 disk and refresh the installation. All other drives were disconnected, and the only driver installed before the update was the LAN driver. Even trying to install drivers from the MOBO disc didn’t resolve the problem. The hardware includes an Intel 4770k GPU, Nvidia GTX 760 GPU, ASUS Maximus VI CPU, and a 120GB Kingston SSD. Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Incorrect setup detected. Ensure all drivers are installed prior to connecting to the internet. Check your signature for the link.

I attempted that before, but it produced the same result. I’ll check your post later to confirm if my approach was incorrect.

Kept it on the dark screen for about an hour. This occurred after a recent update of 8 Every 15min; clicking the auto-select input on your monitor checked it. Eventually, it started booting into Windows.

Additionally, what’s the point of this process? Just set up version 8.1, move up to 10, and perform a fresh installation of 10 to finish everything.

Yes, a Windows 8 key should function during a Windows 8.1 setup.

Yes, it won't function while installing. It operates only after reaching the desktop.
