Hey everyone, we faced a tough situation after one of the hard drives stopped working. We tried booting from another drive but didn’t succeed. Using a USB drive or a Win 7 CD didn’t help either, and Clonezilla also failed. The installed programs weren’t functioning properly, so setting up a new Windows 7 machine wouldn’t solve the issue. While trying to install drivers in the Windows setup screen helped nothing, the PC kept saying those drivers weren’t compatible because they came from the old HDD. We’re looking for advice on how to proceed.

Do you have backup copies ready? The setup process was clear. Which raid card were we using? This matters a lot. Was it a crucial system? You should consider hiring a data recovery service if needed. Were the drives photographed before any changes?

did you remove the faulty disk? raid 1 is mirroring, so a copy should exist on the other drive—have you tried exchanging the SAS or SATA connections? this might be necessary for the bootloader to load properly. if raid1 was set up from windows after installation, it could mean the bootloader was on the first disk, and mirroring applies only to the second disk’s Windows partition. always configure RAID during BIOS or controller card setup before loading windows.

We have backups for the drives. Based on what I remember (the setup was long before my time at the company), it was an internal RAID controller for an HP Z400. One drive is functioning while the other isn't. It was configured before Windows was installed, and after about 4-5 hours of troubleshooting, I opened the Windows repair tool, but it couldn't recover anything because I didn’t understand the drive’s data structure.

Have you experimented with changing the storage configuration in BIOS between RAID/AHCI/SATA/IDE? Windows 7 often behaves strangely depending on the controller modes used. Try booting from a partition manager such as MiniTool PartitionWizard to check disk setups. If it relies on software RAID, you may be stuck. However, if it uses the built-in Intel chipset for RAID, reconfiguring the remaining drive to boot independently is typically straightforward.

To restore it, you typically swap out the damaged disk for a functional one, and it should reinstall itself.
