I attempted to reinstall my Windows 8.1 laptop, then tried downgrading to Windows 7, but ended up finding Windows Vista (2006) installed. I confirmed the ISO works fine and ran it in VirtualBox.

Going to need way more information than that. And, what is your question exactly?

you might choose to switch back to Windows 7 because it offers a more stable and reliable experience, even though 8.1 has some advantages. The main concern could be app compatibility or other issues you're facing.

the laptop is a sony vaio vgn-ar41l. downgrading feels pointless, but i dislike windows 8 and prefer stardock, so my setup stays similar yet i still don’t like it.

The system detects an issue with hardware compatibility during the 80% progress stage of the setup.

I resolved it earlier in my IT course using a Dell machine by changing the RAM, but now I’m facing the same issues on my laptop.
