Windows 7 setup and SSD installation topic Question about partitioning and storage optimization
I'm purchasing an SSD for my brother and need to clone the HDD. Since the SSD isn't large, I wondered if it's possible to reduce the Recovery Partition (~11GB–4.7GB used) by about 5GB to free up space. On Windows 8, the defragmentation tool automatically recognizes SSDs and offers an "optimize" option instead of full defragmentation. Does Windows 7 also have this feature?
Prefer using Defraggler. You can adjust settings and disable SSD drives. It’s really straightforward. I favor this tool since it provides much richer details, and I’ve managed to defrag it down to zero percent, while the built-in Windows version usually stops at two percent.
Releasing the SSD can cause harm because it lacks read heads, leading to quicker wear. Storing all files in a single block also forces continuous reading from that area, risking premature failure of the entire drive. That’s why proper maintenance is important.
You're referring to improving performance, right? Defragmentation can harm SSDs in Windows, so if it doesn't fix issues below 2%, there might be a system problem.
It focuses on reducing unnecessary data. Earlier operating systems lacked a TRIM feature for SSDs, but today it's widely adopted. In reality, Windows doesn't offer more improvements for SSDs beyond this point.
