I’d pick 7 hands down since it’s the top choice. But there’s a concern about the latest DirectX version not supporting Windows 7—maybe I shouldn’t need it. Also, it seems to demand more resources than 8.1, which could slow things down. 8.1 feels like a solid upgrade over Windows 8 and is reported to be lighter on resources. What do you think? Cheers!

Full compatibility with Windows 8.1. Speed stands out, the interface feels improved after adjustment, or you can customize it to resemble Windows 7. It’s probably a budget-friendly or even free switch to Windows X.

8.1 offers superior results in games, which is why it works well.

I really like Windows 8.1. DX12 will be released for Windows 10 and later versions.

It's said DX 12 would only run on Windows 10, though I don't question that much. The improvements over 8.1 are definitely worth it versus 7, and it's also more recent.

It might be, though either option is 8.1. It's also more affordable compared to 7.
