Hi everyone! Welcome to the discussion. I’m facing some serious problems with Windows 7. Mostly, I can’t play games from Steam on my PC, and whenever I open a game released after 2015, I get an error saying "Dlll missing" followed by a long number. Upgrading to Windows 10 seems like a possible fix, but I’d rather avoid that if I can. I’ve tried updating Windows and keep seeing the same message for hours. I’m really stuck and would appreciate any advice. Thanks! -Bock

I faced a similar problem before. You might need to reinstall. What I had to do was copy the missing DLL files from the boot camp install on my Mac, which resolved the issue (though this worked on W10). If you have another W7 machine, you could try that too. Open the Event Viewer to check which DLL file is missing.

Thanks for your response, Dr! The message clearly points out a specific DLL issue you're facing. It's frustrating that you can't reinstall them and that Windows keeps prompting you to update for hours. This is really inconvenient since the solution seems to affect you too. -Bock

Do you have a different Windows 7 version installed elsewhere? Also, could you share the details about your computer's specifications? You might need to reinstall Windows.

Sure, there are no compatibility issues detected. Are you looking for an alternative Windows 7 installation location? Additionally, I'm just checking which DLL files might be missing.

Unfortunately, I don’t have another Windows 7 installation. It seems the missing DLL files are linked to issues with my Microsoft Visual C++ 20xx applications. I attempted to uninstall and reinstall each one, but they won’t install again. The messages keep saying "Processing" or "Looking for update."

It's similar to what I was going through. I tried reinstalling Visual C++ in various versions, removed and readded them multiple times, but nothing worked. You might try setting up a VM and installing Windows 7 on it, then transferring the missing DLLs from the VM to your machine. Otherwise, you'll need to reinstall from scratch.

Uncertain if this would resolve the problem without a full reset (though it seems you’re likely doing a clean install). The issue started after upgrading from version 8.1 to 10.
