You're facing issues reinstalling Windows 7 on your HP motherboard, which previously worked fine. You've checked all available downloads on Microsoft's site—ranging from Home to Ultimate—and even tried it in VirtualBox. The problem persists with copying files, where it jumps from 1% to 100% and then shows the error message. It seems Microsoft might be actively removing Windows 7 support.

You may need to verify your Windows 7 ISO file for data consistency. It might be corrupted or incomplete. Once confirmed, a valid checksum should pass without issues. Consider using alternative tools like Etcher or a Yumi USB utility for installation.

I wouldn't question that MS is intentionally disrupting the image. The problem likely stems from misconfigured files on the system, possibly corrupt data inside the image: Error code 0x80070241. It appears to be a widespread issue lately. I'm curious about what caused it.

I have actually installed all versions of Windows 7 from the site. Bradmonster has even tried the Rufus USB creation tool without success.

It might be an issue with the hard drive inside the computer too. Installing Windows on a damaged or malfunctioning HDD usually causes similar errors. Consider using a portable HDD tester to check for problems before proceeding.

I ran HHDScan and everything turned out well. It’s using the WDC WD5000AAKS-65V0A0-WD-WCAWF3070830 and a Hitachi HDS721050CLA662-JP1572HR3JX5KK.

Have you tried installing win10? I'm just asking to see if its operating system based issue or even a linux based OS?

I'm having trouble getting Win 8.1 or Win 10 to install, maybe the system isn't compatible or it's too slow. It could also be related to the processor speed.

I managed to set it up, but after installation it fails to start and stops working after a short time.

It seems unusual at first glance. When you were inspecting the hard drives, did you open the laptop? If yes, verify that the drives are securely connected and that the RAM is properly seated. For now, I suggest installing Ubuntu and testing its stability.
