Received a reset Alienware Windows 7 PC from a friend. Installation of video drivers was straightforward. Updating proved tricky—today’s date is January 18th in Auckland time. Initially, turning off the PC and rechecking updates resolved issues, but after installing several updates, Windows 7 would block new updates citing prior failures. The update manager displayed two critical updates, totaling 177 important ones, excluding optional ones. It seems Microsoft still sends updates for current Windows 7 systems up to the last official release on the 14th. Once this cycle ends, I plan to advise my friend to upgrade to Windows 10 after his Windows 7 is fully recovered. It won’t be surprising if no one hears from someone who managed to apply all these updates from a clean original installation.

Already reinstalled or updated to the latest Windows 10, using the .iso from their website saved a lot of time. Still nice seeing Microsoft keep providing updates for such an old operating system!

It seems some individuals aren't clear on what "ending support" entails. This means no further updates or patches will be released. Existing versions will stay accessible. If you're willing to make an effort, you can likely upgrade Vista to its most recent updates and patches as well. Even Windows XP updates remain available for download from Microsoft. The OS updates for Windows 7 will continue to function for years, though no additional releases will occur after installation.
