My friend is having trouble accessing his laptop, and all my attempts to help haven’t worked. When he powers on, the background image shows but the login screen isn’t visible. I tried booting in safe mode, but a warning appeared about issues starting Windows. I was hoping for a "run recovery" option, but it doesn’t seem available with this model. I’ve considered reinstalling Windows or replacing the hard drive, but I’m running out of options.

Restore previous backups? Or recover from a win PB? Install CD if needed.

Check if explorer.exe is working. Would you like me to restart it?

He doesn’t appear to possess any secondary copies nearby.

We've attempted it and it appears to be an ongoing issue. Why didn't I consider this earlier? Any further suggestions?

Use the Windows installation disc. Choose to run a login repair or fix the entire system. You can also restore your data. It seems like the update might have failed. I've experienced several login problems with Windows 7 following incorrect updates.
