Windows 7 fails to start properly on power-on screen.
Yesterday I purchased a new RAM kit (Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB DDR3, 2 x 1866MHz CL10) and swapped it in the same slots as my old Kingston HyperX 4GB DDR3 (2 x 1600MHz CL9). Restarted the PC and applied default settings at boot. Everything worked fine then. Now after an OS update, Windows won’t boot and crashes at the login screen. I suspect the update is causing issues, since RAM is detected by BIOS. But I can’t start Windows in Safe Mode—it just halts loading at some point, and the system restore fails with error 8000ffff. Any advice on fixing this? I’d rather avoid formatting my partition for a clean install. Writing this down with the TV remote.
