Some folks just don’t understand. It wasn’t always an issue until Windows 10 began being abused and pushed everywhere. I feel the same way. Vista was a nightmare—takes days just to fix basic stuff. XP Pro 64 ran smoothly, which was a relief. That’s what matters. W7 was terrible, but I know what I’m doing now and won’t let it be worse.
Check the site via Internet Explorer: https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Home.aspx (or the Windows 7 update forum link) and look for updates KB3020369 and KB3172605. It should resolve after installing them.
I installed updates using an offline tool for several versions. It stopped working, so I updated myself. I decided to just leave the PC as recommended. After 28 hours, everything finished without problems.
