The currency system has been unstable for some time now. The weather tool still functions, you might just need to restart it. After that, turn off and then turn back on the gadget service in the "Turn Windows Features on/off" panel. If needed, use the MSN weather gadget instead.

Additional tools can be added using a .GADGET file. This is the MSN Weather tool. http://win7gadgets.com/weather/weather.html You may review its source by converting the .GADGET extension to .zip and loading it.
