I’m planning a couple of weeks away and can’t bring my desktop, so I pulled out my old laptop from the closet to test it. It boots up and runs Windows 7, but then crashes with a blue screen. Should I reinstall Windows or try running Linux instead? Any suggestions on fixing the BSOD would be great. Thanks!

I’d run Linux from the main PC using a flash drive, then erase the laptop completely. After that, install Steam and choose between CS (console) or CSS (console) depending on what you prefer. Once set up, you’re ready to use it unless you need other programs installed.

Attempt this in CMD with admin privileges: EDIT: if you reach the desktop, that works. (maybe safe mode?) sfc /scannow

You're having trouble accessing the desktop and encountering blue screens on Linux. It might help to check your system logs, ensure you have the correct display settings, and verify that your graphics drivers are up to date.
