Windows 7 attempting to restart a random install during boot-up
Over the past month, whenever I power on my PC, I encounter a menu asking me to choose an operating system. Since only Windows 7 is installed on my SSD, the HDD contains just programs and other files. I haven’t reinstalled Windows 7 on the hard drive, and because the SSD is in a single partition, there’s no room for a second copy. This setup makes it difficult to install Windows again without affecting the existing one. Here are some photos of the boot choices: Option 1 displays Windows 7 and halts the install due to missing CD/USB, forcing a restart and returning to the OS selection screen. Option 2 loads my current OS normally but I’m trying to disable this option and understand why it keeps appearing. I’ve looked for guides on fixing boot issues or installing Windows, but nothing seems to resolve this recurring problem. People often mention similar install failures where random restarts happen, and I’m unsure how to address this specifically.
Open Command Prompt, then navigate to the Boot section in msconfig and remove the problematic boot entry.
It's a Windows setup, so the Windows boot menu starts first, then msconfig is the right choice as @Benjals mentioned. If it were Linux and GRUB had options needing configuration or removal, you'd use the GRUB manager either inside the OS or via a live USB/CD.
The BIOs remained untouched. A pop-up appeared saying "continue install," but after a month of occasional changes, I deleted the other boot setting and everything worked. Thanks a lot!
