After assembling my new PC, I realized Windows 11 wasn't activated even though I used the same SSD from my previous system. Are product keys tied to a device rather than a Microsoft account? (Note: Nvm Windows eventually figured it out after a few days) Edited February 18, 2023 by tddk25

It varies based on whether the key is OEM or retail. OEM licenses are linked to the motherboard and can't be used elsewhere, while retail versions may allow installation on another device.

Windows keys can connect to a Microsoft account. You need to clearly indicate you're moving the license from another device.
