Recently, I've started exploring the methods people use to customize or "adjust" Windows 11 and Windows 10. I've performed basic theming and performance tests on Windows 11 to understand its behavior. I won't reference specific names since some tools are third-party, but I'm curious about their functionality. For instance, if a tool alters core window actions to resemble Hyprland, is it essentially an application layer working alongside the native Desktop Window Manager (DWM) for the intended visual effect? Also, I observed that certain applications still trigger DWM when changing window settings. Could this be related to how Windows manages its window system? I'm not very familiar with Windows or technology in general, so I'm trying to learn from a human perspective rather than relying on AI explanations. I understand in Linux you can switch between different compositors, desktops, and windows, but is that even possible here? Or does the entire operating system depend on DWM?

I agree, yes. I haven’t worked on modifying my Windows GUI since Windows 7, BUT I think your point is spot on. DWM is essentially the core of Windows.

Explore around and discover things. Either run the OS directly and complete your tasks, or get stuck trying to fix and reinstall. It’s okay with either approach, just make sure you have realistic expectations. This works for all operating systems. Many Linux/Windows YouTubers demonstrate their work in a virtual environment, which can give you an idea of how usable the OS is after modifications. The choice of apps and scripts is yours. Just avoid blaming Microsoft if you encounter issues.
