Windows 11 was reinstalled and still doesn't list any HDDs (even in disk management).
Hello, I reinstalled Windows 11 on a PC with one NVMe for Windows and two HDDs for storage. Before the installation, I disconnected the power cables (not SATA) from the two HDDs and then proceeded. After reinstalling, I reconnected the power cables and checked Disk Management, but the drives weren’t listed. Before removing the external HDD bay, is there anything else you should verify remotely? This isn’t on my PC, so I’m looking for any final steps before going in.
You'll need to access the BIOS settings and verify the drive listings. It's likely a straightforward adjustment, but you'll have to do it in person.
I visited the place and noticed it wasn't just ignoring the HDDs, but also all SATA devices like the DVD burner. After entering the BIOS, I adjusted two settings one by one: first switching from RAID to AHCI, then restarting the PC—still no recognition of SATA devices. Next, I changed from UEFI to CSM, which instantly displayed the SATA drives in the BIOS interface. This part of the BIOS setup uses the same configuration as the MSI version I saw online. Then, SATA drives functioned properly in Windows. Now there are two changes applied: AHCI instead of RAID and CSM instead of UEFI, and everything works. However, could this cause problems later? Since Windows was installed with the other settings.
