There's a Windows Update that I can't seem to avoid. It want's to update my computer from Windows 10 to Windows 11. The two times it has tried so far, the installation fails and my primary boot drive no longer is detected. This leads to my old back-up SSD being the only one available in the BIOS boot options. Windows has always been running fine on my primary boot until this Windows 11 update. Is there a way to revert back to Windows 10 on my primary boot drive and get it working again? I see a Windows and Windows.old folders if those can help. I previously used Macrium Reflect to clone my old boot drive to my new one. My old boot drive is also almost out of space. It only has 2 gb left.

You could turn off the automatic update feature in Windows Update, right?

If the update is already applied and you can't start Windows, you must be inside the OS. Either reinstall Windows 10/11 from scratch on that drive or restore your previous setup to the updated drive without allowing it to progress to version 11.

I'm having trouble getting started. I can't even access my main boot drive.

That is unfortunate to hear. Are there any plausible reasons why the update is failing?

Check if your remaining system and BIOS configurations support running version 11. Please share your complete system specifications for a detailed assessment.

Does the system recognize the drive as a boot device? If not, consider generating installation media for your OS version and attempting an automatic recovery. Alternatively, use Macrium Reflect to create a Rescue USB drive and start from there. This approach offers a more comprehensive boot repair solution.

Ensure the power is cut from the previous drive before cloning it to a new one.

There are many options available, but what should occur if W11 doesn't boot after the update is rolling back to W10? This happened to me—I believe because I used a dual-boot setup with Windows and Linux.

It seems the BIOS might require an update.
