I recently assembled a new setup featuring a Ryzen 7800X3D and a 9070 XT GPU. After installing Windows 11, everything functions smoothly, though I observed the BIOS labeled as "Other OS" rather than UEFI. I assumed Windows 11 couldn't be installed unless UEFI was enabled... Can I simply turn it on without changing settings, or should I enable UEFI first before reinstalling Windows 11? The main issue seems to be boot time—enabling "memory context restore" helped a great deal, but the system still requires over 15 seconds just to POST, and about 30 seconds to reach the Windows login. Most users report their AM5 boards boot fully within 10-15 seconds.
Can I simply turn it on, or is it better to enable it and then reinstall Win 11? You may need to complete several steps beyond just setting it to UEFI. It might also be necessary to disable CSM if it's active. If enabling BIOS as UEFI and disabling CSM leads to problems, you'll likely have to reinstall the operating system. Before making any changes, back up any mission-critical data from the OS drive if available.
I haven't installed anything significant, so I'm planning a complete reinstall. One might expect the BIOS to set UEFI as the default...
I'm back. It seems to be booting a bit quicker.
It bugs me when there "might" be something wrong. Better to do it all over the right way.
Can you share the Disk Management image? If the disk begins with a 100MB, it indicates a "Healthy (EFI system partition)" and is operating in UEFI mode correctly.
BIOS settings might include UEFI, CSM or Legacy. "Other OS" is restricted to Secure BOOT choices. Unless a non-standard W11 version was used with a cheat code, it wouldn't allow installation outside of UEFI mode.
