What's happening here? The Steam app is using a lot of memory, consuming around 500MB, thanks to seven "Steam Helper" processes running inside it. That’s not the main issue. Is it typical for Windows 11 to use nearly all 8GB of RAM just when idle? When I play games, I only have about 2GB free. My gaming runs smoothly, but my second monitor is lagging because there seems to be no more available RAM. This leads me to another concern. I own a 12400 CPU i5 3060TI with an RTX 3060 and 16GB of RAM. I’m playing on a 1440p screen, and people with similar configurations say they achieve at least 95-100fps, while I’m stuck at 75-80. Could it be because my 16GB RAM forces the processor to send more data to handle game files, while the RAM is only sending what it needs to the GPU?
When RAM is needed, unnecessary items are removed from memory to create space. This involves checking your device's specifications during play and understanding the specific configurations others are using.
Your browsing feels delayed because of resource constraints while running games, preventing the system from clearing temporary files or allocating extra memory for smooth navigation.
For heavy browsing and gaming, you typically require more than 16GB of memory. What was sufficient once is no longer enough, especially with modern browsers like Chrome that consume a lot of RAM. Newer games also demand significantly more resources, though this varies by title. When streaming or recording alongside gameplay, additional strain can be placed on your SSD, which may become apparent if you're already struggling with paging due to high memory usage. How are you tracking the performance? Because unused empty RAM isn't helpful, Windows will store frequently accessed data to boost speed and clear it when needed.
MW3 demands a lot from your processor too. You might run out of CPU power if you're trying to surf the web while the game is running, especially during pauses between respawns. The 12400F is a solid gaming CPU, but it may not handle playing MW3 and doing online tasks at the same time well.
SSD setup for Windows 11 with an RTX 3060 Ti and 16GB RAM. The system runs at 3600MHz and supports 1440p gaming monitors or 1080p browsing displays. During gaming sessions, the GPU stays near full capacity while the CPU operates between 70% to 90%.
Yeah, that's just what it says. Leftover memory space is just wasted space. Windows and games will use more of it if you have extra.
