Hello, your Lenovo Ideapad 5 with a Ryzen 5 5500U and 8GB RAM is running Windows 11 AMD. It seems the performance impact of Windows 11 on this CPU setup hasn’t increased significantly compared to previous versions.

AMD and Microsoft resolved issues with the newest chipset driver and Windows update. Windows 11 still has a few shortcomings, but I updated according to the public release schedule and didn’t see any changes on my 5600x. The main things that stood out were the inability to shift the taskbar to the side and the poor customization of the start menu.

Yes, the taskbar is fixed at the bottom and can't be moved. It's not a problem for a laptop since performance is expected.

The issue has been resolved. You can observe the performance variations in this latest Hardware Unboxed video. Your 5500U runs on Zen 2, an update from the 4600U, which represents the energy-efficient mobile form of the R5 3600, meaning Steve is evaluating a different configuration of your CPU.

Thanks, but Windows 11 is fine. I’ll still make a backup since I don’t trust Microsoft with updates.

It's a smart move to save your files regularly, particularly for a laptop that might face drops or damage.
