Windows 11 PE? Live Drive
Windows 11 PE? Live Drive
Hi, I made a Windows PE boot drive a long time ago using third-party software. I placed the ISO on a multi-boot thumb drive and used Yumi to run it. This let me start Windows from the thumb drive and perform tasks like data backup without needing to install Windows on the main machine. I used it for Windows 7, 8, and 10. I’m trying to figure out if Windows 11 has restrictions on this kind of setup and whether I’m searching the right way. Did M$ take action against such configurations? Also, am I missing something in my search? Thanks!

You can build your own PE by relying solely on first-party Windows components, though you'll need to install numerous additional files that are largely unnecessary for other tasks.
Hiren's is a superior choice, particularly because it includes many helpful tools out of the box.
I just pulled out my old 1 TB HDD backup drive and discovered the software. It's called WimBuilder, formerly known as WinBuilder. Theoven.org provides all the details. However, you can only download it from a Chinese site, which makes me cautious about installing it even on my backup computer.
It seems you're checking if the device can work with the newest 13th and 14th generation Intel and Ryzen systems.
Yes. I've recently tried it on a newer system. Everything worked fine.
It was nice getting your response. The issue started on an Intel machine, likely from the 12th generation. The Win11 installer didn't recognize the main drive, so I had to use the Intel RST driver in the installer. But the main SSD was failing, which probably caused the installer to stop at the finding drive step. This is the first time I've worked with a newer system, so I'm not very experienced with these problems.
@COLGeek needs to start in a Windows setup to reach data from the main drive. During this session I encountered malware and preferred not to risk a ransomware attack by using the main Windows install. Luckily my Winbuilder Win 10 PE worked without issues. It's unclear if that version would function on a newer system.
