I was involved with the beta version of 7, which was a significant upgrade compared to Vista even back then. I'm considering a switch because of the HDR support and the 5.1 surround sound system. So far, I've noticed HDR performs much better, but I haven't heard much about the audio quality yet.
Hdr is intended to improve performance but I haven't used it. My monitor's hdr display is malfunctioning. With a 5.1 audio card, surround speakers, and a 7.1 headset, everything functions properly except for an issue with my microphone. It wasn't detected and the sound panel crashed, causing a long hang. After updating drivers and restarting, it worked. Just keep an eye on things. Post-upgrade, all settings will revert to defaults.
Following Linus's video suggests waiting before purchasing any OS, as early adopters often face major issues. It's usually better to hold off until at least a month for fixes.
You won't see the advanced visuals activated, and the way you interact with the app will vary depending on the platform it's running on.
I've set it up on unsupported hardware and I'd say yes! But it really depends on your configuration. If multiple monitors are supported, the new taskbar isn't fully available yet—there was a pause in development for Windows 10. It would be comparable in features but might need the next year's update to catch up. If you're okay with limitations, I'd say yes. The operating system is more consistent now and the interface looks better. The new additions are appreciated and have boosted my productivity. After testing Windows 11 for a while (I'm in the Insider Program), I found the updated Start menu to be more appealing. The 'Recommendation' section makes it easy to switch between projects I was working on. We're aware that the interface enhancements were rolled out in two phases. What we have now and next year, if you're aiming for the top experience, it might be better to wait.
