Hello. For more details, you can refer to my earlier discussion. Essentially, I adjusted the fan speed settings through both the BIOS and the Fan Control app. Once those changes were applied and I logged into my account, the computer seemed to pause. It froze when trying to launch programs—like opening the start menu—but didn’t respond to clicking icons or pressing restart/shutdown buttons. If I managed to open my Files folder, it would attempt to load but fail. When Discord was enabled to launch after turning on the PC, the loading screen appeared but remained stuck and didn’t complete. After a short delay, everything worked again, then the system would freeze once more. I attempted several fixes: reverting the fan curve in BIOS, removing files from Fan Control, resetting Windows 11 to factory settings, switching to safe mode, and even restarting in normal mode. Still nothing resolved. Now I’m stuck with a frozen PC that only functions in safe mode. I checked the Event Viewer, but no critical errors were recorded except for a force shutdown. My setup includes an AMD Ryzen 5 5600G, Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics card, 8GB RAM, and an MSI B550M motherboard. The OS is Windows 11 64-bit version 23H2, with BIOS version 7C95v2L. Fans are a single ARCTIC P12 PWM unit and one ARCTIC F9 PWM unit. I’m not very familiar with tech, so help would be greatly appreciated.

It seems Windows might have encountered an issue. Try restarting it several times to trigger a repair. In the setup menu, select the option to go back to an earlier Windows update version if available.

I'm not sure if this will fix the issue like factory reset did before. I'll give it a shot. It's hard to say for sure since the last update was just a short time after the second freeze.

Returning to an earlier Windows update won’t reset everything. If you’ve added software after the final update, it might be gone. If you’re missing something and think you just reinstalled Windows, consider doing so. Also look for a newer BIOS version that could fix fan curve problems.

I reset Windows because of the freezes that began after adjusting the curve. I also updated BIOS to attempt a fix. The latest MSI version I have is beta one. How can I go back to an earlier Windows update? Edited October 2, 2024 by Water Tower Made the question clearer.

You were considering using an older System Restore Point, which should be created during updates or manually set. However, it seems this feature isn’t turned on by default, so it might not be available. Reinstalling Windows could be the best option. Someone else might have a more suitable approach.

Factory resetting Windows isn't exactly the same as a full reinstall. You thought it was, but there are differences in what happens.

It's not Windows issues again, as expected...

It essentially clarifies things on its own without needing a full reinstall like updating Windows. However, if Windows isn't working properly, don't rely on it—just format the drive and start fresh with a new installation. That’s the approach I’d take.

The update restored the issue. Appreciate the clarification. Factory reset and reinstall are not the same.
