Windows 10's sound quality isn't great lately.
I explored the audio performance right away after setting everything up. I installed realtek drivers and checked various Windows settings, including audio enhancement and spatial sound options. Despite these adjustments, the sound remained centered, even with spatial effects or the built-in sonic feature enabled. I tried using Hesuvi, but it still reproduced sound as if it came from the center of the headphones.
Another issue I faced was that my computer doesn’t automatically detect my headphones as “Speakers Realtek Audio” in Device Manager. I have to switch the device manually each time I connect them, instead of Windows handling it automatically. I’m unsure if this behavior is typical.
Did you receive the drivers from the mainboard maker or directly from Realtek? The manufacturer might have included extra features in their drivers that aren’t present in the more basic Realtek versions. Regarding the headphones, are you connecting them to the rear of the PC (the mainboard) or to the front audio port? The rear ones are intended for speakers and have color-coded indicators; using those will require the green model.
I downloaded the audio driver from my motherboard’s site (Asrock B450 Steel Legend). I connected my headphones through the front panel. Playback works when “Speakers Realtek Audio” is set as the default in Device Manager, and it remains visible even after disconnecting the headphones.
The audio suddenly improved after using new speakers. After skipping headphone use for a few days, connecting them now made the sound clearer and more balanced. The surround effect returned and bass was restored. I’m unsure what caused the issue but hope I’ll remember the details. I’ve been trying to speed up my system recently, so it went through several restarts and changes. It’s reassuring to hear again in high quality, though I worry it might happen again.
