Hello, please note that while I've encountered similar problems before, none of the proposed fixes resolved the issue for me. The situation unfolded as follows... I was organizing files on my PC, mainly in AppData. Unfortunately, I wasn't cautious and removed items I shouldn't have. This led to a complete loss of my Windows 10 setup. Consequently, I opted for a clean installation. Initially, I attempted to reset via the settings menu, but the error code remained unclear. Online research suggested missing files as a potential cause, so I created a USB installation drive. During the setup process, the installation would either freeze or restart unexpectedly. After several attempts and adjustments—using different USB drives—I managed to complete the installation quickly. Once Windows started, it would repeatedly restart after about two minutes. I disabled automatic restarts in both Windows and BIOS, searched for system logs, but couldn't find any useful information (the PC remained active for only a short time). I experimented with BIOS settings like Global C-state Control and Secure Boot, yet nothing resolved the problem. Driver issues were mentioned, but the PC failed to stay on long enough for updates. I also upgraded the BIOS to the latest version without success. Despite my concerns (my system had been functioning well for hours), I suspected that accidental changes during the failed reset might have affected the SSD's data. I replaced the SSD and tried again. I reset the BIOS, removed the CMOS, reinserted RAM, and tested it on another machine—still no luck. As a last resort, I installed Linux with the latest Ubuntu version. Everything worked smoothly. My conclusion was that there was no hardware fault; it seemed Windows was malfunctioning again. I wondered if tampering during the reset had altered the SSD's data structure. I replaced the drive and retried. I also attempted to clear BIOS settings, but nothing changed. Now, as I often do when Windows causes trouble, I switched to Linux. It ran perfectly with the newest Ubuntu release. My experience has led me to believe that Windows might be experiencing persistent issues, possibly due to recent changes or errors during setup. I’m open to other suggestions, any new ideas would be helpful. Thank you in advance! Here are my system details:
- Model: B550i Gamaing Edge WiFi
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 5500
- RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance 3600 MHz
- GPU: Nvidia RT 3060 NVMe
- SSD: Samsung 990 Pro 2TB (recently installed)

remove one of the RAM sticks, restart the installation, and check stability on a machine with just one RAM stick. this isn't reliable. if the setup fails completely, it indicates a problem.

Thanks for the feedback. I attempted it too, but didn't get any results. As you noted, the RAM appears to be functioning properly on another system.

No partitions were removed from the drive during the Windows installation process.

I removed everything then attempted two methods. 1. Created a new partition and proceeded after installation. 2. Kept the partition empty and pressed next, which was meant to let the installer finish but both failed.

The RAM modules may function properly, but the motherboard's handling could be flawed. This means relying solely on software tests isn't enough when evaluating RAM performance.

I completed a memory test using the motherboard's self-check feature and received a clean result. Your confusion comes from thinking about unexpected issues, but your system functioned normally before any attempt to reset it.

Run a software memory assessment with a slight challenge. If you fall short, it’s likely a serious issue. A passing result doesn’t guarantee quality.

I've received an update. It works in Safe Mode, but fails when running normally. I checked diagnostic mode settings in msconfig and everything seemed okay. After installing updates via Windows Update and NVIDIA Experience, the problem still occurs. I suspect driver-related issues.

New update. If you're facing the same problem and it keeps happening on this thread, you might want to know: the issue stems from Windows and specifically the chipset driver. It seems that Ryzen 5 CPUs paired with older AM4 boards often need driver updates to run properly. In fact, even after installing Windows updates, the correct drivers weren't available, causing crashes. The solution was to install the CPU drivers from AMD's site right before the crash occurred. It took a few attempts, but once done, the problems stopped.
