I’m preparing for my first PC tomorrow and still need Windows. I plan to purchase a code from a Microsoft software swap Reddit post for $40. I’m unsure about the right flash drive, its size, USB type, or how to transfer the code onto it.

1) A USB flash drive is acceptable.
2) Approximately 16GB capacity is sufficient.
3) Any type works, though USB 3 is preferable.
4) Obtain another device and insert the ISO onto it, or use an older system with a Windows CD.

Your Windows 10 laptop is currently available and could serve as the "other device."

An ISO file acts as a digital disc. Microsoft offers a Media Creation Tool for Windows 10 that, when executed, mounts an ISO to any selected device (it gets formatted automatically). Inside it are the installation files for the operating system. Alternatively, you can use software like Burner to load an ISO.

You can use Rufus to write the downloaded file onto a thumb drive, preferably in Fat32 format. I’m not sure if NTFS was used, so try Fat32 first.
