Windows 10 with a dark theme offers a sleek, modern look.
This feature originates from an older version of Windows and has been added to modern Windows 10. It changes your app colors to a dark theme, but it doesn't impact Windows Explorer, which is responsible for the main white screen glare. Appreciate the effort!
You're not interested in that right now, isn't it? Currently, only custom themes work, but I've tested most of them and they're really disappointing. They don't add much value, some parts are hard to notice, and others are almost impossible to fix. Plus, they consume a lot of CPU power. But here are the top picks: http://uxstyle.com/ (Needs a custom theme to use) Windows 10 - Dark Edition
I guess that's essentially what I thought. It's been quite a challenge getting this done. That's why I was checking if Linus would consider making a video about it. His expertise in his field means an endorsement could be solid. Still, thanks for your help—I'll give the linked option a shot.
I believe a dark theme for Windows 10 file explorer would be beneficial, yet I think a native Windows solution is the best approach. Using third-party themes on the main file explorer isn't appealing... Still, since we can't rely on Windows itself, this seems to be your only choice. If you're concerned about eye strain, you might consider using an app to reduce blue light during nighttime use.
I'm not confident this applies beyond the Windows 10 Insider Program. You can turn on UWP File Explorer. But: It's still under development. No file extensions are shown. Multiple windows don't work. Partitions look like folders. Very limited. Just right-click anywhere on your desktop, choose New > Shortcut, and type: explorer.exe shell:AppsFolder\c5e2524a-ea46-4f67-841f-6a9465d9d515_cw5n1h2txyewy!App. Proceed to Next, name it File Explorer, click OK. Now launch it. Of course, Windows 10 must be in dark mode for the theme. Otherwise, lower your screen brightness or activate Night Mode in Windows 10.
