Windows 10 version 10240 is quite old, but you can still upgrade to a newer release for free. The 29th of any month is a good time to check for updates and take advantage of the free 1-year offer. Just ensure you back up your data before proceeding. If you're unsure, going back to Windows 8.1 might be safer unless you need the latest features.

Remaining an Insider grants you access to Windows 10 licensing. Exiting the program means your license will lapse and you’ll need to purchase a genuine product key.

I’m fine with purchasing a new key, but I’m short on cash at the moment. Would you be interested in receiving a few extra months of free use?

Reports on the forums indicate 10240 is the last version. You can retain your Insider license, granting access to preview builds. Otherwise, you must revert to version 8.1.
