Hello, I own a Lumia 640xl and am attempting to upgrade from Windows 8.1 Update 2 to Windows 10 using the upgrade advisor. The warning says: "The Windows 10 upgrade isn't available for your phone right now." We're checking if your device can support Windows 10. Any thoughts on what's happening? I really want to proceed with the upgrade.

You can obtain the device recovery software from Microsoft. Using it along with a USB connection from your computer allows you to reset your phone and apply the latest operating system available.

The device has been reinitialized prior to this reset. Before the reset, I encountered an error code 80070002. Now it only displays the text I previously mentioned.

Even with the recovery software, the 640XL can support Win10 Mobile up to the Anniversary release. The Creators update isn't available for us since we only manage x50 models. Using this tool → click me, and it should function via USB. I tried it with an 830 instead of following the upgrade advisor.

They also used the recovery option, and it confirms the operating system is current (currently running on 8.1 update 2, as mentioned earlier).

The only thoughts that come to mind are about whether the device is linked to a specific carrier like Telefonica, Pink T, or Vodafone. Some users might still face restrictions when trying to upgrade. O2 needed about a month to apply the update.

It isn't a product from a specific vendor. The operating system version is 8.10.15148.160. I don’t understand what happened—this phone should have been able to upgrade to Windows 10, but they just performed a hard reset instead.

I found a similar update on the MS Support Forums. It seems the same version was available for my phone, just with a different release number.

I was a bit upset about the Lumia 830 not being in that list... It's a Nokia device, just like all Nokias, designed to endure... Even though the 830 is still suitable for everyday tasks at 8.1 R2, not 10. The reason? The camera software on 8.1 (still the Lumia camera) offers superior quality compared to the newer MS camera app. You can't even access the Lumia camera app anymore, despite being able to visit the store. That's a shame. On the other hand, the appearance and user experience of Win 10 Mobile feel more refined than 8.1. Plus, I can still run Here on the 8.1 version, which isn't possible with the 10. The MS follow-up app shares similar features, but I prefer the Here interface and performance.
