Windows 10 Update Issues
Hi everyone, I've been facing a persistent problem for some time now and was hoping you could assist. Since April this year, my PC has been struggling to update, as shown in the first photo. What's unusual is that minor quality updates have worked fine, but only the 20H2 update has been problematic. Each time the same error appears, and when I search for it I find references to an audio driver for a device I don’t own (Conexant) or issues related to storage space on the C drive (I have 172GB free, so that seems unlikely). I’m not sure what’s causing the failure. On Saturday, after downloading and starting the Windows 10 Update Assistant, everything seemed normal. It detected an outdated version, downloaded, verified, and began installation. Progress sped up to about 70% and then slowed significantly—sometimes just a few percent every 5 to 10 minutes. I thought it was normal since it handled multiple updates at once and left it running while I was away. When I returned home a few hours later, it reached 99%. It took so long that I thought I might have missed the right moment. After a few days, it remained at 99% most of the time, not changing until today when I got home from work. The only programs open in the system tray during those updates were Malware Bytes, my Sennheiser headset software, Steelseries mouse drivers, and Nvidia utilities. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? Also, what should I do about the Update Assistant—it won’t close or cancel itself, and I’m worried about restarting it while it’s running. If you need more details about my peripherals, just let me know. Thanks!
Consider backing up your data before performing a factory reset. That’s the only solution I have, sorry.
