Windows 10 Update Assistant – Issue Detected?
I followed your instructions and launched the upgrade assistant, which quickly verified the files at 0% to 96%. It told me it was ready to download. I mentioned the progress was slow, around 4%, and it should finish soon. Then it started downloading everything from the start, completely replacing the files I had saved earlier. I believe those were lost permanently.
In this situation, the best solution seems to be downloading an ISO file and performing a clean installation. You were correct from the beginning, sorry about the issue, but it looks like Microsoft isn’t doing a good job protecting their files. Thank you for your help, your time, and the kind words from @C2dan88. Have a great day!
I didn't claim a clean install was the top choice. I mentioned you could upgrade your system with an unpacked ISO. Doing a clean install means you'll lose all installed software, settings, and files. If everything functions properly, simply execute setup.exe within Windows after placing the unpacked ISO in a folder—preferably a new one in the root directory, avoiding existing user folders.
