Hi there, I see you're facing some issues with your Windows 10 update. It sounds like the update process got interrupted, and now your files might be at risk. Let's try to recover what you've lost. Have you checked if there are any backup copies or saved versions of your important files? If not, you might want to consider using a system restore point or seeking professional help to restore your data. Let me know what you find!

For improving Win 10, you can also utilize the Media Creation Tool to obtain or write the newest Win10 ISO to a USB drive (requires at least 4GB space). Since your system is quite old, a fresh installation might be more suitable than trying to upgrade.

It might be confusing, but it seems you may have lost some personal data such as photos or music. The Windows installer or update assistant shouldn't affect your files, except in older versions of 1809. If you're referring to files needed for an upgrade, changing your upgrade method is fine. Using an unpacked ISO is recommended. Also, a bit off-topic—you seemed to be seeking immediate assistance, so please clarify your issue for a more helpful response.

I lost the necessary files for the upgrade. I didn’t do it, and I respect everyone who will assist me. However, I received a response unrelated to my question, which has left me a bit upset. Also, you can still review my topic—I explained everything in detail.

It seems C2dan88 is correct—consider using a different approach to upgrade. If you save the ISO file and move it to a location such as c:\win1903, then run setup.exe, your system should be upgraded accordingly. This installer won’t remove any files. I’ve used this method to upgrade six computers successfully so far.

Well, lemme say it again: i didn't ask about another method to do windows upgrade, i was asking about some way to restore those files i lost. Why are you guys going away from my main question?? if those files cannot be restored then just say this, without wasting my time and your time also. Its no problem for me to download an ISO file again, but here in my country i have a very limited internet package of GIGABYTES, i don't wanna waste them for nothing, because Microsoft Windows doesn't have a way to restore some lost files, that's really ridiculous, and i'm in so need next days to do so many high downloads.

The location C:\$GetCurrent\media probably serves as a temporary spot for saved files. While updating, Windows relocates or unpacks those files in C:\Windows. If the installation assistant encounters issues, it often removes the moved or unpacked files without trying to restore them. That’s why I recommended using the Media Creation Tool, which ensures a permanent download of the latest ISO.

Here we are, trying to understand what happened. I identified another spot where the installation files might be located before they went to C:\GetCurrent\media. I found a folder named "Windows10Upgrade" and discovered the files there with names like 18362.175.190612-0046.19h1_release_svc_refresh_CLIENTCONSUMER_RET_x64FRE_en-us.esd (3.22 GB) and similar entries. I believe these are the downloaded files before they were compressed and moved. Is there a method to pull out the Windows installation files from those files?

Assistant should recognize downloaded files and utilize them directly without needing another download. You can observe the download progress for a brief moment and it automatically advances from 0 to 100%.
