I possess 32GB of DDR4 RAM installed, and I configured the pagefile to use the maximum available space. During heavy tasks like running a programming IDE, Android emulator, or Chrome, sometimes applications terminate unexpectedly even when foregrounded. The Task Manager has previously indicated low memory usage, showing 23/31.9GB. Could you explain what’s happening? I don’t want to allocate excessive space on the pagefile again, especially since last time it consumed 60GB of SSD capacity.

Windows seems more capable than you think when it comes to handling memory. Restoring everything to the original settings could work well. With 32GB of RAM, your pagefile should remain manageable. A 60GB installation suggests a significant issue with the setup.

The issue with the 8Gig pagefile lies in how it’s being managed by Windows. It claims to expand up to three times the system memory, but this isn’t accurate. The real problem is that it often runs low on available RAM, causing performance issues.

Windows memory handling seems confusing to us. However, I configured a system-managed pagefile on an SSD I selected, using 32 gigabytes of RAM. The pagefile never exceeds about 4 gigabytes unless required. It expands automatically as needed.

It looks like the size stays consistent once that point is reached.

Avoid doing that for any reason—it's not advised. Set it to automatic. You can check the forum discussion here: https://www.wagnardsoft.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1256. Make sure everything is running, just minimize after starting, not close.
