My server is currently in a rough state and needs some assistance to stabilize it. It powers on and allows login to Windows, but everything freezes after the desktop loads. The taskbar and start menu aren't responding properly. I typically run it continuously as a Plex server, only accessing it through Teamviewer and Pulseway since it's rarely connected to a monitor. Recently, internet access was lost while streaming on Plex. I checked via Pulseway and Teamviewer but couldn't establish a connection. I confirmed the network was working, then powered off the server using the power button. After restarting, it takes several minutes to reach the desktop, after which it freezes completely and becomes unresponsive. Any suggestions without performing a full Windows reset?

Powering down the system and checking functionality. Attempting to connect via another GPU. Being cautious about the outdated 780 hardware.

I've attempted safe mode but it didn't help. Now I've unplugged my storage devices and when I start up I'm prompted with a message asking me to reboot or select the correct boot device. The boot drive appears to be detected, so I'm not sure what's happening. I have backup GPUs available that I could use. However, because of the CPU, it requires a GPU for video output.

Are you certain Windows wasn't utilizing the media drives for purposes other than storage? Could it be that Windows was never installed on those drives? It might be trying to recover from several failed boot attempts, possibly due to the UEFI detecting a changed hardware configuration. Regarding the GPU, I suspect the 780 model isn't fully stable when its driver is active and causes system freezes. Perhaps a different GPU would work without needing a driver. Did it successfully enter Windows and then become unresponsive?

Ensure you're using the correct Windows installation media. If the system boots from another drive, that drive may be faulty. Follow the instructions provided here using just the Windows drive connected. https://www.itechguides.com/windows-serv...pair-boot/ Once it starts with only that drive, you can attempt a repair.

I moved my first media installation to another PC just to check its contents. It contains only storage space plus Windows apps and program files. I recently installed my daily 1080ti system, but everything remains unchanged. When powering on, I reach the login screen normally. After entering the password and pressing enter, it takes about ten minutes to reach the desktop. On the desktop, nothing functions—no start menu, no pinned taskbar icons, unresponsive taskbar. The desktop icons exist but are not usable. A shortcut for Task Manager works after 5–10 minutes, and even in safe mode it behaves the same.

For the operating system to work properly, your computer must have the necessary program files and a dedicated user folder.

I just attempted this but ran into an issue. When only the C drive (SSD) is connected, the output shows one Windows installation, but I can't proceed further. If I connect both C and D drives and run "bootrec /rebuildbcd," it returns zero detected installations.

Because the automatic startup fix didn’t work either, I followed the instructions on that site. https://www.thewindowsclub.com/automatic...-repair-pc But there’s still nothing.
